SKARDU: Practical work has officially commenced on the expansion project of Skardu International Airport for improving passenger services and operational capacity.

According to airport authorities, the project, titled Implementation of Passenger Facilitation and Allied Works (Expansion of PTB), was formally initiated following the issuance of a commencement letter on June 18.

The contractor has mobilized personnel and machinery at the site to begin construction activities.

Under the project, the existing Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) will be expanded, a dedicated cargo terminal will be established, and vehicle parking facilities will be upgraded.

The enhancements are expected to significantly improve passenger convenience while strengthening the airport’s overall operational efficiency.

The project is being supervised by the Airport Manager and his team.

Airport authorities have assured full cooperation and support to the contractor to ensure the timely and effective execution of the development works.

Officials expressed confidence that the project will be completed within the timeframe stipulated in the contract, marking another important step in the modernization of aviation infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan.
