SHANGLA: A grassroots movement against alleged widespread corruption is gaining significant momentum in Shangla, as local youth and elders unite to demand accountability for stalled development projects.

The campaign, which was sparked by a social media trend initiated by a Facebook account named “Syasi Baghi,” has seen young activists and community leaders sharing tender documents and official records to highlight discrepancies between government funding and actual progress on the ground.

Protesters allege that both federal and provincial governments have approved and tendered development projects worth billions of rupees. Yet, these funds have reportedly been released to contractors for work that remains either abandoned halfway or entirely uninitiated. Participants in the movement are now using digital platforms to share specific details of schemes in their villages, claiming that many projects exist only on paper with no visible groundwork.

The movement has further accused both current and former elected representatives of the district of being complicit in the alleged misappropriation of funds. In response to these findings, several citizens have moved beyond social media activism to submit formal complaints to the Anti-Corruption Department. The campaign continues to grow as more residents join the call for transparency, seeking to ensure that public funds are effectively directed to the community through completed infrastructure and essential services.
