NOWSHERA: Seven persons were killed when rival parties opened fire on each other over a minor land route dispute in Mian Isa village of Nowshera on Tuesday.
According to police sources, there was a long-standing dispute between two families in Mian Isa village over the right of way. After a bitter exchange of words yesterday, both sides freely used modern weapons. The firing was so intense that the people present at the spot could not get a chance to recover, as a result of which both sides had to suffer heavy casualties.
Four brothers from the same family died in the firing from one party, while three people, including a father and his two sons from another family, were killed. As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
The bodies have been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem. Police officials say that tension persists in the area, due to which security has been increased, while raids are being conducted for the arrest of the accused and further investigation.
Local elders have expressed deep sorrow over the incident and termed it a great tragedy for the area. Mian Isa village is currently in mourning, and every eye is tearful as seven funerals are being held at the same time.
