QUETTA: Security forces repelled a militant attack on an anti-smuggling checkpoint in the Panwan area of Jiwani, officials said, with four attackers reportedly killed during the exchange of fire.

According to security sources, the post had been established on a key route used to curb smuggling activities. Officials said the location had played an important role in disrupting illicit trade networks operating in the region.

The attackers allegedly launched a coordinated assault on the security installation in the evening, which was met with a swift response from personnel stationed at the post. The ensuing gun battle was intense but was eventually brought under control, officials added.

Security sources said the attack was linked to groups involved in smuggling operations, though these claims have not been independently verified.

In the exchange of fire, two security personnel were killed, officials confirmed.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search and clearance operation to ensure no further threats remained. Reinforcements were also dispatched to the site.

Authorities said the operation was still ongoing and further details would be shared once the area is fully secured.
