MASTUNG: Security forces foiled a major planned terrorist attack during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Mastung district, where five suspected militants were killed including a suicide bomber after a powerful explosion ripped through a hideout surrounded by troops.
Authorities also recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from the site, saying the operation prevented what could have been a high-profile terrorist attack in the region.
According to sources, upon receiving information about the possible planning of a high-profile attack in Mastung, security forces took immediate action and surrounded a part of Kalipada and an uninhabited housing complex. VTOL was also used for aerial surveillance of the area during the operation.
Sources said that an explosion occurred inside a house during the siege. Later, during the search, it was initially revealed that an alleged suicide bomber blew himself up due to the presence of security forces and the siege.
The bodies of five alleged terrorists were recovered during the operation, while the organs of a suspected suicide bomber were also found at the scene.
According to sources, two handheld wireless sets, 15 UBGL rounds, small arms ammunition, three submachine guns, an M4 rifle, two night sights, a STOS device, a large quantity of explosives, and two Probox vehicles, which were allegedly planned to be used as explosive-laden vehicles, were also recovered from the scene.
According to initial estimates, there are possibly 6 to 8 improvised explosive devices inside the house, which the bomb disposal team has been called in to defuse.
