Local residents of Rustam and adjoining areas have demanded the construction of a tunnel connecting Rustam, Mardan with Buner to reduce the long and difficult travel distance between the two districts.

‎Community elders said that at present people have to travel via a long, winding route to reach Buner, which wastes both time and fuel. They added that during emergencies, heavy rain, and landslides the existing roads often get blocked, causing serious problems for patients, students, and traders.

‎”Building a tunnel between Rustam and Buner will not only shorten the distance but also provide a safe and all-weather link for thousands of people,” said a local elder.

‎Residents appealed to the provincial government and relevant authorities to include the tunnel project in the development agenda. They said the project would boost trade, tourism, and connectivity between Mardan, Buner and Swat.

‎Traders added that Rustam is a major hub for vegetables and fruits, and a shorter route to Buner and Shangla would reduce transport costs and strengthen the local economy.

‎Residents have appealed to the provincial government and elected representatives to include the Rustam-Buner tunnel in the next development package and conduct a feasibility study.
