PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has raised more than Rs335 million through the auction of four exportable Markhor trophy hunting permits, setting a new record for the province.
The auction was held under the supervision of Chief Conservator Wildlife Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Mohsin Farooqi, with permits allocated for various Village Conservation Committees in Chitral and Kohistan.
According to officials, the four permits generated a combined $1.2118 million, equivalent to approximately Rs335.685 million.
The highest bid was recorded for the Toshi-II Markhor trophy hunting permit in Chitral, which fetched $335,600, or around Rs92.965 million.
The Toshi-I permit was auctioned for $320,600, equivalent to approximately Rs88.8 million, while the Gahirat Gol permit fetched $260,000, or around Rs72 million.
The Kaigah Khwar permit was sold for $295,600, generating approximately Rs81.8 million.
The latest auction surpassed last year’s highest bid of $272,000, indicating increased demand for Markhor trophy hunting permits.
Under the revenue-sharing mechanism, 80% of the proceeds will be allocated to local communities for welfare projects and wildlife conservation, while the remaining 20% will be deposited into the provincial government treasury.
