ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Punjab Assembly member from Khanewal’s Mian Channu, Makhdoom Pir Arif Zaman Qureshi has passed away.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over his death and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

In his condolence message, Zardari said Pir Arif Zaman Qureshi had remained loyal to the PPP from the era of party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto through to the present leadership.

The president said the late leader’s long political struggle and valuable services to the party would always be remembered. He described his death as a major loss for the Pakistan Peoples Party and said his contributions to the party and democratic struggle were unforgettable.

PPP Central Information Secretary Shazia Marri, Senator Palwasha Khan and other party leaders also expressed grief over Qureshi’s death and offered condolences to his family.

Qureshi, who hailed from Mian Channu in Khanewal district, had also served as chairman of the Khanewal District Council.

Party leaders and workers expressed their condolences and paid tribute to the late leader’s political services.
