ISLAMABAD: The PTI has reportedly agreed to cooperate with the federal government on counterterrorism efforts and accept its other conditions.
The sources said the PTI would extend full support the federal government in dealing with terrorism. However, the PTI delegation during the meeting with the government expressed reservations over the proposed imposition on governor rules in the KP. They also said PTI did not demand for a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan as part of the discussions.
According to the sources, the main concern for the PTI was that governor’s rule should not be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The development comes amid ongoing talks between the government and opposition over the political situation and the PTI’s planned march towards Islamabad.
The government has linked progress in the talks to the cancellation of the march and greater cooperation from the KP government on counterterrorism. The two sides have continued negotiations in an effort to resolve their differences through dialogue.
Earlier, reports claiming that the PTI had asked the government to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan were based on rumours and did not reflect what happened during recent talks between the government and opposition. Government and opposition representatives held a meeting at Parliament House, where the government asked the opposition to postpone its planned October 5 march on Islamabad. Senior politicians from both sides attended the meeting.
However, the issue of arranging a meeting with Imran Khan was not discussed, according to the sources. The sources said there was no decision or development regarding a meeting between PTI leaders and Imran Khan. This is not the first time that unverified reports have circulated on social media regarding PTI-related developments.
However, it has been reported that a major breakthrough in government-opposition negotiations as the two sides moving beyond their initial differences and working on a joint draft agreement after the second round of talks.
