ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not demanded a meeting with party founder Imran Khan, contrary to reports circulating on social media, sources said, adding such reports are false and beyond the fact.
The reports claiming that the PTI had asked the government to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan were based on rumours and did not reflect what happened during recent talks between the government and opposition.
Government and opposition representatives held a meeting at Parliament House, where the government asked the opposition to postpone its planned October 5 march on Islamabad. Senior politicians from both sides attended the meeting. However, the issue of arranging a meeting with Imran Khan was not discussed, according to the sources.
The sources said there was no decision or development regarding a meeting between PTI leaders and Imran Khan. This is not the first time that unverified reports have circulated on social media regarding PTI-related developments.
However, it has been reported that a major breakthrough in government-opposition negotiations as the two sides moving beyond their initial differences and working on a joint draft agreement after the second round of talks.
Negotiators are now focusing on the final wording of a proposed agreement and a joint declaration. The negotiating teams successfully narrowed several key differences and prepared a draft based on the demands discussed by both sides. A formal announcement is expected once the document is finalised.
