ISLAMABAD: A major deadlock has emerged in ongoing talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) over measures to combat terrorism and action against militants, according to sources.
Sources said the two sides remained divided over the implementation of practical measures against militants and terrorist elements, with concerns being raised over the lack of agreement on concrete steps.
According to sources, the PTI has expressed reservations over proposed government measures, including special administrative powers and enhanced security arrangements in areas severely affected by terrorism.
The disagreement has raised concerns within government circles that the absence of effective measures could create space for militant and banned organisation elements to operate.
Sources said the lack of consensus and what they described as insufficient commitment towards taking concrete and indiscriminate action against terrorism had become a major point of contention in the negotiations.
Government circles have reportedly expressed serious reservations over the PTI’s position, while further details regarding a possible suspension or continuation of the talks are awaited.
