ISLAMABAD: The ongoing talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) have reached a deadlock over administrative measures proposed for areas affected by terrorism, according to sources.
Sources said the PTI was reluctant to support certain necessary administrative measures aimed at addressing security challenges in terror-hit areas, creating a major hurdle in the negotiations.
The sources said the core disagreement between the two sides had emerged over administrative matters linked to counterterrorism efforts. They added that the PTI remained hesitant about the government’s proposed approach to dealing with terrorism and militant elements.
According to sources, the government believes that practical administrative and security measures are necessary in areas severely affected by terrorism to prevent militants and banned organisations from gaining space.
The sources said the differences over counterterrorism measures had become the main point of contention in the government-PTI dialogue.
They added that if the two sides failed to make progress on the issue of terrorism, it would be difficult to move forward on other matters under discussion.
Further developments regarding the talks and the possibility of resolving the deadlock are awaited.
