ISLAMABAD: Talks between the government and opposition ended without a final outcome, with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) position on counterterrorism measures being described as a major hurdle in the negotiations, according to sources.

Sources said the dialogue could be adversely affected if timely progress was not made on terrorism-related matters and the PTI proceeded with its planned long march.

They said issues related to counterterrorism measures were crucial to the success of the negotiations and that it would be difficult to move the dialogue forward without clear progress on these matters.

According to sources, if the PTI failed to make timely progress on terrorism-related issues while also launching the long march, it could have a negative impact on the ongoing negotiations.

Sources added that in such a situation, the government could consider other available options. However, they stressed that reaching consensus on terrorism-related matters was essential for taking the dialogue forward.

The sources said the government remained willing to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations, but clear and practical progress on terrorism and national security matters was considered fundamental to the success of the talks.

They added that counterterrorism and law-and-order issues would remain central to future rounds of negotiations, and that progress would remain difficult without an agreement on these matters.
