ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned consumers about fraudulent courier messages and emails being sent by scammers posing as courier companies.
In a public advisory, the PTA said fraudsters often send fake delivery notifications or emails in the name of courier companies in an attempt to deceive consumers
According to the notice, such emails could include instructions to visit certain links, make payments, or provide one time passwords (OTPs).
The PTA warned the consumers against clicking suspicious links and from sharing such messages or their personal details with anyone.
The latest warning is a step taken by the authority for the protection of mobile consumers against online frauds and scams.
Earlier, the PTA also cautioned the consumers against the illegal use of foreign SIM cards to safeguard their identity and financial details.
The authority stated that the buying and selling of foreign SIM cards is a criminal offense and could endanger the safety of consumers in many ways. Any call or message received from such SIMs could compromise the personal and financial data and might result in legal problems as well.
PTA recommended to the consumers that SIMs be bought from the franchises located close by or the registered outlet and the SIM should also be registered in their names.
The consumers are also recommended to be careful when getting delivery messages unexpectedly and to not click on links until they verify the sources.
