ISLAMABAD: A notice circulating widely on social media, claiming that answering calls from 051-7080507 could allow fraudsters to steal money from JazzCash, Easypaisa and other mobile payment accounts, has been declared fake and misleading.
The viral notice purportedly carried the name of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and advised citizens not to answer calls from the number, alleging that scammers could empty their mobile payment accounts within seconds.
On September 3, a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared the notice, describing it as a “cyber fraud alert.” The claim subsequently spread across Facebook, YouTube and TikTok through multiple posts.
However, a fact-check found that the PTA did not issue any such notification or advisory.

The telecom regulator has also issued a clarification through its official social media accounts, describing the circulating notice as “fake and misleading” and making it clear that no such alert had been issued by the authority.
The fact-check further noted that the formatting and language of the viral document do not match the PTA’s official communications.
The claim that calls from 051-7080507 can automatically enable scammers to steal funds from JazzCash, Easypaisa or other mobile payment accounts is therefore false and misleading, and the purported PTA notice should not be treated as an official advisory.
