A new storm of inflation has hit Rustam tehsil of Mardan district and its surrounding areas as the recent increase in the prices of ghee and cooking oil has broken the back of the middle and poor class, due to which there is serious concern among the local citizens.
After the extraordinary increase in the prices of ghee and cooking oil in the local markets of Rustam, the purchasing power of the common man is being rapidly affected. Citizens say that electricity bills and other expenses had already shattered the household budget, and now the increase in the prices of basic food items has made it difficult to even get two meals a day.
Citizens who came to Rustam Bazaar told Pakhtun Digital that “Earlier we were fighting inflation, now the prices of ghee and oil have made up for it. How can an ordinary daily wage laborer feed his children?”
People complained that the district administration seems completely unsuccessful in controlling prices. Shopkeepers have their own arbitrary rates, and no one is happy from this fluctuating prices.
Public circles have demanded that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the local district administration to form Price control committees to regularly check the prices of food items. Strict legal action should be taken against those who create artificial shortages of ghee and oil.
The government should immediately provide affordable items to the public through utility stores or any other relief package.
Local people says that if the situation remains the same and the district administration does not intervene immediately, then this trend of inflation in the markets of Rustam may intensify further, which will further increase the problems of the common people.
The people have once again appealed to the higher authorities to take practical steps so that the poor people can be pulled out of this inflationary spiral.
