PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Civil Secretariat and several other key government offices were closed ahead of schedule time on Friday amid security threats.
According to sources, all employees present at the Secretariat were granted immediate leave, and directives were issued to evacuate all official vehicles from the premises. The Civil Secretariat serves as the administrative hub for approximately 36 provincial departments.
The Chief Secretary’s office and the Establishment & Administration Department remained operational to monitor the situation, while all other ministries and sub-offices were completely shut down.
Beyond the central Secretariat, sources confirmed that the Excise Office on Shami Road, alongside the Health and Information departments situated on Warsak Road, were also closed to avoid any security threat.
According to sources, security measures were taken at the Civil Secretariat amid fears of a possible suicide attack during Friday prayers at mosques inside the Secretariat or on its premises.
While a heavy contingent of security personnel has been deployed to secure the administrative zone and surrounding roads, provincial authorities have not yet issued a detailed official statement regarding the exact nature or origin of the threat.
