PESHAWAR: To modernize the recruitment examination process, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) formally launched Computer-Based Ability Testing (CBT) system in collaboration with the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA).
The first-ever computer-based tests under the new system is termed a major shift from conventional paper-based examinations to digital testing. The first test of kind was held for Senior Instructor (Criminology) and Law Officer under the new system at the KPPSC IT Lab in Peshawar.
Official sources said that the new system aimed at making public service examinations faster, more secure and transparent. It is also expected to reduce the time and administrative work involved in compiling results compared with paper-based tests and manual processing.
The shift to computer-based testing will also reduce the Commission’s reliance on printed question papers, answer sheets and other examination material. This is expected to lower expenses related to printing, paper, stationery, transportation, storage and other administrative requirements.
The digital testing environment is also expected to strengthen examination security and help prevent unfair means by providing greater control over the testing process and reducing human handling of examination material.
The initiative represents a transition from traditional paper-based examinations to a more technology-driven system for conducting competitive examinations in the province.

The introduction of CBT is therefore not merely a technological upgrade, but a major institutional reform aimed at making public-sector recruitment more efficient, transparent, secure and responsive.
With the launch of CBT, KPPSC has taken an important step towards bringing the province’s public service recruitment system in line with modern, technology-enabled examination practices, while creating a stronger foundation for faster and more reliable recruitment processes in the future.
