PESHAWAR: The Meteorological Department (PMD) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have issued a severe heatwave warning in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from June 8 to 11.

Due to a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, the heat intensity is expected to increase by 4 to 6 degrees in the plain, central, and southern districts of the province. The temperature recorded in various cities of the province and the forecast for the coming days are as follows:

The current temperature in Peshawar is 32 degrees Celsius, while the humidity in the air is 32 percent. However, during the heatwave, the mercury is likely to reach 41 to 45 degrees Celsius in Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, and Swabi.

Temperature recorded in Bannu at 32 degrees Celsius and in DI Khan at 33 degrees Celsius. In the coming days, the heat intensity will continue in Bannu, DI Khan, Karak and Lakki Marwat and the temperature there may reach 46 degrees Celsius.

Malam Jabba recorded 21 degrees Celsius, Saidu Sharif 25, Abbottabad 27, Dir 17, and Chitral recorded the lowest temperature of 11 degrees Celsius. Due to the effects of the heat wave, the temperature in these upper areas may also increase from normal to 37 to 40 degrees Celsius, which may accelerate the rate of melting of snow on the mountains.

PDMA has ordered the administration of all districts and Rescue 1122 to remain on high alert and has directed them to establish heatstroke centers in cities. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to maximize water use. Farmers have also been instructed to take special care of their crops and livestock in view of the intense heat.
