PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert regarding more rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with pleasant weather and a drop in temperature expected.
According to PDMA, thunderstorms with rain are likely in upper and central districts of the province until August 15. The districts likely to receive rain include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand, and Kurram.
PDMA warned of possible landslides in sensitive hilly areas. Urban flooding is also feared in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi due to heavy rainfall. District administrations have been directed to take precautionary measures, monitor rivers and streams, and keep roads and drainage systems clear.
The public has been advised to stay in safe places during rain and thunderstorms, and maintain distance from rivers, streams, and rain drains. Tourists have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, hiking, trekking, and camping during rains.
Children should be kept away from rivers, streams, ditches, and drainage channels. People should also avoid walking or driving through flood water. PDMA stated that its Emergency Operation Center is fully functional 24/7. Citizens can report any untoward incident on the helpline 1700.
