ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched a large-scale security operation in Balochistan to dismantle militant networks operating in the province, according to a report by the US-based magazine The Diplomat.
The report stated that the operation, named Operation Shaban, involves the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Balochistan Police, and aerial support as part of a coordinated campaign against militant groups.
The operation was launched following a militant attack on July 7 at Mangi Dam, in which 27 police personnel were killed, according to security officials. Authorities said that since the start of the campaign, around 123 militants have been killed.
Under the operation, security forces are targeting elements of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in northern districts, while operations are also being conducted against the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and other separatist groups in southern parts of the province.
Pakistani officials said the objective of the operation is to dismantle militant infrastructure, eliminate safe havens, and restore the writ of the state across Balochistan.
Security authorities have described the campaign as part of broader efforts to improve stability in the province and counter armed groups involved in attacks on security personnel and civilians.
