PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has begun exploring options to commercially utilize around 55 kanals of valuable land owned by the Transport Department within the premises of the Peshawar Bus Terminal, commonly known as Lahore Adda.
The move aims to make more effective use of the government-owned property in the public interest while generating additional resources for the province. Comprehensive proposals will be prepared, followed by a meeting of the Road Transport Board to examine the technical, financial and administrative aspects of the proposed utilization and determine the way forward.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan and Adviser to the Finance Department Muzammil Aslam visited the Peshawar Bus Terminal to assess the available land, the existing terminal and sites where construction work is under way.
Senior officials, including Transport and Mass Transit Secretary Muhammad Zubair, Planning and Development Secretary Adil Shah, Director Transport Hassan Abid and the terminal administrator, accompanied the officials during the visit.
The visiting officials were briefed on the current condition and facilities at the terminal as well as the government-owned land. They were informed that the Transport Department owns approximately 55 kanals within the terminal’s premises, including the existing bus terminal and additional vacant land.
Officials discussed various possibilities for the effective commercial use of the property, including the development of modern facilities that could provide better services to citizens while creating new revenue-generating opportunities for the provincial government.
Samiullah Khan said the provincial government was committed to ensuring that government land was utilised more effectively in the public interest. He stressed the need for comprehensive planning to ensure that the valuable asset at such an important location could improve public facilities as well as strengthen provincial resources.
Muzammil Aslam said effective utilisation of government assets was an important component of sound financial management. He said the strategically located land could be developed under proper planning for projects capable of generating additional revenue and strengthening provincial resources.
He added that modern, well-equipped facilities could be developed on the site to improve services for citizens while creating new sources of income for the provincial government.
