ISLAMABAD: More than Rs313 billion in loans have been approved under the government’s Apna Ghar Programme to support the construction of affordable housing, while housing finance approvals surged by 117% over the past two months.

According to the Ministry of Finance, more than 53,100 housing finance applications have been approved since June 2026, with the total value of sanctioned loans exceeding Rs313 billion. More than Rs45 billion in loans have already been disbursed, representing a 120% increase in loan distribution.

The ministry said Pakistan currently faces a housing shortfall of around 12 million units, while approximately 400,000 new homes are required each year.

It added that financing under the Apna Ghar Programme is expected to stimulate construction activity and boost industries linked to the housing sector, particularly cement and steel. The initiative is also likely to create new employment opportunities and encourage both domestic and foreign investment.
