ISLAMABAD: A senior commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Abdul Wali Dawar has reportedly been killed in the lastest strikes by Pakistan inside Afghanistan.
According to reports the TTP commander Abdul Wali Dawar has been killed in the strikes carried out by Pakistan inside’s Afghanistan targetting militant positions in Paktika and Kandahar. Pakistani targeted several centres allegedly being used as military facilities by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), TTP and Al-Qaeda, as well as the Afghan Taliban (TTA).
Reports said large quantities of drones were also present at these centres. The operation also targeted the Afghan Taliban’s so-called spiritual centre, the Mulla Omar Complex, known as “Mulla Sarai”, in Kandahar. The complex is also reportedly described as a centre for the guards of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada.
The Pakistani operation has sent a clear message that not only terrorists but also centres providing them shelter, training and launch facilities for attacks against Pakistan will not remain safe. According to Pakistani authorities, 10 terrorist hideouts inside Afghanistan were targeted in the air operation. Reports said drone-launching facilities at the Galan camp, Ismail Khel and Mandozai in Khost were destroyed, while key terrorist infrastructure at the Sahra Bagh compound in Khost was also targeted.
The Mulla Omar Complex, or “Mulla Sarai”, in Kandahar was also among the targets. According to reports, it is currently being used as the residence of the Kandahar governor of the Afghan Taliban government. Several other alleged terrorist hideouts linked to the Afghan Taliban government were also targeted in Paktika, according to reports.
Meanwhile, AFP, citing Afghan officials, reported that Pakistani aircraft targeted the headquarters of the Afghan army’s 203rd Mansouri Corps in Paktia. Airstrikes were also reported in Khost. Pakistan’s confirmation of the operation in different parts of Afghanistan comes amid rising tensions between the two countries over cross-border attacks and allegations of terrorism.
Pakistan has maintained that effective action should be taken against terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil, while Afghan authorities have continued to describe Pakistani operations as a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
