KABUL: To intensify armed resistance against the Taliban, several anti-Taliban groups have stepped up attacks on Taliban checkpoints, vehicles, security personnel and other positions across Afghanistan.
According to reports from Afghan media, at least 10 armed attacks were reportedly carried out in Kabul, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Kunar, Nuristan, Parwan and Paktia. Resistance groups claimed that the attacks killed 17 Taliban personnel and injured 10 others during last week.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has reportedly intensified its operations in Nuristan and Sar-e-Pul. The group has claimed that its fighters captured several Taliban positions and pushed Taliban forces back from some areas of Nuristan and Kunar. These claims could not be independently verified.
The Afghanistan United Front, led by former Afghan army general Sami Sadat, has also claimed operations in Kandahar, Kabul and Badakhshan. According to the group, some of its attacks targeted Taliban command and intelligence centres.
The National Independence Front (NIF) has separately claimed attacks on Taliban military vehicles and security checkpoints in Paktia, Salang and Kandahar. The group has also reported a recent attack on a Taliban security post in Kandahar.
Earlier this month, the Afghanistan United Front said it had carried out 43 operations against the Taliban across 14 provinces over the previous month, claiming 74 Taliban members were killed and 35 wounded. According to the figures cited in the latest report, 39 armed resistance operations have been carried out across Afghanistan so far in September, with more than 69 Taliban personnel reportedly killed and 30 wounded.
The latest claims indicate continued armed activity by several opposition groups against Taliban security positions, although the scale of the attacks and casualty figures remain difficult to independently verify.
