ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has blocked the Urdu WhatsApp channel of Al-Mirsad, a media network accused by security and digital monitoring sources of spreading extremist narratives and terrorist propaganda.

According to security and digital monitoring sources, the action was taken as part of efforts to prevent the circulation of illegal and hateful content within the country’s digital space.

Sources said the Al-Mirsad network has been associated with promoting narratives and propaganda linked to banned militant groups, including Daesh Khorasan and other armed organizations operating in the region.

Digital monitoring authorities had reportedly been tracking the network’s activities for an extended period before restricting access to its Urdu WhatsApp channel in Pakistan.

Officials said the measure was aimed at curbing the spread of extremist material and strengthening online security measures.
