KARACHI: A major change is on the way for public transport in Sindh as hundreds of new buses are set to hit the roads soon. The PPP government in the province plans to add 50 double-decker buses and 500 electric (EV) buses to the public transport system.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon to review transport projects across the province. Memon directed officials to quickly identify government land for new bus depots, saying the project should move ahead without unnecessary delays. He also asked deputy commissioners to provide details of suitable land in their respective districts.
He said the government aims to provide people with a modern, comfortable and environment-friendly public transport system. The minister added that the new buses will start running soon, but bus depots and other essential facilities must be ready before they can begin operating. He also instructed the relevant departments to complete all necessary arrangements as soon as possible.
According to Memon, the project will significantly improve public transport and make daily travel easier for people across Sindh. Public transport remains a major challenge for many people in Sindh, especially in Karachi, where thousands rely on buses for daily travel. Limited bus services and overcrowding often make commuting difficult.
And that’s why the PPP provincial government in Sindh has been working to improve its public transport system in recent years by introducing new buses and expanding services to make daily travel safer and more convenient.
