ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a notice to Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with an inquiry into alleged dissemination of provocative and defamatory remarks against state institutions on social media.
According to an official notice issued by the NCCIA’s Cybercrime Reporting Center Islamabad an inquiry has been initiated against Niazi under inquiry No. RE-2031/2026. The agency stated that Noreen Niazi is being investigated over allegations of spreading false, offensive and inflammatory content aimed at discrediting state institutions and promoting what it described as a fabricated narrative through social media platforms.
The notice directs Noreen Niazi to appear in person before the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad on July 20 to record her statement as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The development follows remarks reportedly made by Niazi during a recent podcast interview, in which she allegedly criticized Pakistan’s military achievements and made comments regarding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The NCCIA has cited these statements as part of the material under review.
The agency warned that failure to comply with the notice could be interpreted as a lack of response in her defense. It further stated that non-compliance may attract legal action under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which relates to failure to appear before a public servant when legally required.
