ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that the nationwide monsoon spell has claimed 57 lives and injured 148 people since June 26, as heavy rains continue to trigger fatal incidents and widespread damage across the country.
According to the NDMA’s latest situation report, eight people lost their lives and 16 others were injured in rain-related incidents during the past 24 hours.
The authority said the overall death toll since the onset of the current monsoon season has reached 57, including 22 children, 18 men and 17 women.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 35 deaths, followed by Punjab with 10, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with seven, and Balochistan with five.
The report added that 148 people have been injured nationwide, including 72 in Punjab, 61 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13 in Balochistan and two in AJK.
The NDMA further stated that the ongoing rains and flood-related incidents have caused significant damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. A total of 270 houses have been severely damaged, while 189 livestock have perished in floodwaters.
In addition, approximately 4.5 kilometres of roads have been damaged due to heavy rainfall and landslides, disrupting transportation in affected areas.
The NDMA has urged provincial authorities and the public to remain vigilant as further monsoon activity is expected, advising residents in vulnerable areas to follow official safety advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
