The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) crisis has intensified in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with prices reaching record levels and placing an additional financial burden on households.

According to sources, LPG is being sold at arbitrary rates across the province despite the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) officially notified price of Rs280 per kilogram for October.

The price of LPG has surged to Rs650 per kilogram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the cost of a domestic gas cylinder has also exceeded Rs6,000.

Residents have expressed concern over the rising prices, particularly in areas where natural gas is unavailable and households rely on LPG cylinders to meet their daily cooking needs. They have also criticised the authorities for failing to curb the unchecked increase in prices.

The sharp rise has forced domestic consumers to spend significantly more on fuel, putting further pressure on already strained household budgets.

Meanwhile, increased gas load-shedding in Peshawar and other parts of the province has added to public difficulties. Residents say they are facing a double financial burden, as they continue to pay gas bills while also having to purchase expensive LPG due to shortages in the natural gas supply.

The combination of gas shortages and soaring LPG prices has made it increasingly difficult for households to meet their basic needs, with consumers across the province facing mounting financial pressure.
