ISLAMABAD: Mobile phone prices in Pakistan may see a noticeable drop as the Directorate General of Customs Valuation, under the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has revised customs values for 62 models of old and used mobile phones.

The new valuation, effective from January 16, 2026, is expected to lower PTA taxes by aligning duties with actual global market prices—potentially bringing relief to consumers.

According to the Directorate General of Customs Valuation under the Federal Board of Revenue, the customs values for old and used mobile phones across 62 different models have been updated. This change, effective from January 16, 2026, is expected to lower mobile phone prices, which will also reduce the PTA tax imposed on these devices. The aim is to align duties and taxes with the actual prices in the global market.

The adjustments specifically target older models from brands such as Apple, Samsung, Google Pixel, and OnePlus. For instance, the customs value of a used iPhone 15 Pro Max has been set at approximately $460, down from $1,300 for the 256 GB model. Similarly, the iPhone 15 Pro is now valued at $390 (around Rs. 109,000), while the values for the iPhone 15 Plus and the standard iPhone 15 are about Rs. 89,000. The values of the iPhone 13 series and other models have decreased by between 32% and 81%.

Regarding Samsung devices, the customs value of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is set at Rs. 71,000, the S23 Plus and S22 Ultra at Rs. 45,000, and the S22 Plus at Rs. 21,000. The price range for used iPhones is now between $95 and $295, while Samsung Galaxy phones range from $40 to $255.

It is important to note that these values apply to phones without packaging or additional accessories. This new policy is expected to lower the prices of used phones in the market, providing significant convenience for consumers. Additionally, it may help reduce illegal imports and smuggling.

This change only applies to old and used mobile phones; the tax and customs values for new mobile phones remain unchanged. If you are looking to import a used mobile phone from abroad, it may now be more affordable than before. To estimate the tax for a specific model, you can use the tax calculator available on the PTA’s official website.

Experts in the mobile phone market believe that the Federal Board of Revenue’s reduction in customs values for used mobile phones will directly affect market prices.
