Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has unveiled the new Eclipse Sportback, marking a major addition to its expanding lineup of electric vehicles.

Although the new EV is built on the same platform as the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi has introduced significant exterior design changes to give the vehicle a more distinctive and sporty identity in the market.

At first glance, the Eclipse Sport back appears noticeably different from Nissan’s compact electric hatchback. The front fascia has been completely redesigned, featuring Mitsubishi’s signature three-diamond emblem, newly styled headlights, and a redesigned bumper that gives the vehicle a sharper and more aggressive appearance.

The rear section also carries a unique identity, replacing the traditional Nissan Leaf tail lights with L-shaped lighting units extending in opposite directions.

Large Mitsubishi lettering across the tailgate further enhances the vehicle’s bold styling.

Underneath its redesigned body, the Eclipse Sport back is expected to retain the same powertrain and architecture as the Nissan Leaf.

The current Leaf comes equipped with a 75-kWh battery pack and a 214-horsepower electric motor, and industry experts believe Mitsubishi’s new EV will offer similar performance specifications.

Mitsubishi has also made subtle styling changes to the rear pillars and lower body sections, while specially designed alloy wheels add to the car’s sporty appeal.

The company has not yet released interior images of the vehicle, though analysts expect the cabin layout to closely resemble that of the Nissan Leaf. Mitsubishi has also withheld final details regarding features, trims, and official performance figures.

With the Nissan Leaf currently priced at around $31,535 including delivery charges, the Eclipse Sport back is expected to enter the market within a similar price range.

According to the company, the new electric crossover will arrive in showrooms during the second half of this year, while final pricing and variant details are expected to be announced soon.
