LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that Brendon McCullum will no longer serve as head coach of England’s Test team, although he will continue in his role as head coach of the country’s white-ball sides.

According to the ECB, McCullum’s four-year tenure as Test head coach has come to an end, prompting the board to seek new leadership for the red-ball team ahead of future challenges, including the Ashes.

Speaking about the contribution of McCullum, ECB chief executive Richard Gould has acknowledged the efforts put in by him and how he rejuvenated the Test team of England to score many wins. According to Gould, it is the right time to make a change in England’s management as the country aims for long-term goals in Test cricket.

McCullum felt proud to have managed England’s Test team and expressed thanks to all players and coaching members who supported him during his tenure.

“I am disappointed with the decision, but I respect it,” McCullum added.

On the other hand, media reports coming out of Britain have said that McCullum was sacked from his role as the Test coach after England’s recent Test loss to New Zealand. According to reports, the ECB is anticipated to appoint a new head coach for Tests before the England Test series against Pakistan.

The Test coach of England since 2022, McCullum led England’s Test team along with its captain, Ben Stokes, into adopting a bold playing style that became popularly called “Bazball.”

The Test coach replacement by the ECB remains to be seen as of now.
