UPPER CHITRAL: Poor road conditions and increasing heavy and overloaded traffic are causing significant damage to roads and putting bridges at risk in Upper Chitral, creating serious difficulties for local residents and commuters.
At Reshun, large trucks carrying heavy loads became stuck while attempting to climb a steep section of the road, disrupting traffic in both directions. Passengers, including children, elderly people and those requiring medical care, were forced to wait for extended periods.
Residents said heavily loaded trucks carrying hundreds of tonnes of goods frequently use the roads and bridges in the area, many of which may not have the capacity to withstand such heavy loads.
They warned that continued heavy traffic was accelerating the deterioration of several bridges and could increase the risk of a major accident.
Local residents have urged the government and relevant authorities to restrict heavy and overloaded vehicles on the route until the roads are fully rehabilitated.
They also called for an immediate assessment of the load-bearing capacity of bridges and the imposition of weight restrictions where necessary to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.
