GUJRAT: Renowned religious scholar Maulana Talha Rizvi was killed after unidentified armed men opened fire on him in the Shadiwal area of Gujrat, police said.
Maulana Talha Rizvi was reciting the Holy Quran at a madrassa when he was attacked by unidentified gunmen who fired shots at him, leaving him critically wounded, according to the police.
Local people and the police reached the spot where the incident occurred after getting information. However, the injured scholar was immediately taken to the hospital, where he breathed his last.
The police said that the body had been removed for further investigation while evidence was collected from the scene of crime.
The police have registered a case against some unidentified suspects and started the process of investigation into the case.
Different aspects of the incident have been considered in detail in order to trace out the identities of the assailants and find out the reason for their act of killing.
Religious circles have also expressed deep sorrow over the murder of the religious scholar.
