LAHORE: Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Abdullah Tahir was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lahore, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred near Tahir’s residence when two unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire before fleeing the scene. Tahir sustained critical injuries in the attack.
Tahir was immediately taken to the hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors, according to hospital officials.
The police sealed the crime spot and the forensic experts collected the evidence from the spot. In addition, the investigators are also reviewing the CCTV footage captured from the nearby cameras to trace the identity of the killers.
The authorities stated that the motive of the murder was not known at the moment and the investigators are examining all the possibilities. The police stated that the investigation is underway and more information would be revealed in due course.
The PTI leaders and followers showed their grief over the death of Mr. Tahir and called for a transparent investigation.
