The Sindh government has approved university scholarships for 2,662 students across the province for the academic year 2025-26 under the Sindh Education Endowment Fund (SEEF).
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Sindh Education Endowment Fund Trust, chaired by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
The board also approved the renewal of scholarships for 5,853 students already pursuing higher education under the SEEF scholarship programme.
The meeting was informed that SEEF scholarships are currently enabling students from Sindh to pursue higher education at 92 universities across Pakistan.
According to officials, the total corpus of the Sindh Education Endowment Fund is expected to reach Rs11.62 billion by 2026.
Scholarships are financed through the profits generated from the fund’s investments, while the provincial government contributes an additional Rs2 billion annually to strengthen the endowment.
Established in 2002, the Sindh Education Endowment Fund has supported higher education for thousands of students.
So far, 42,169 students have successfully completed their studies at various universities with assistance from the programme.
The board also decided that the SEEF Executive Committee would submit recommendations aimed at expanding scholarship opportunities at universities.
The meeting also approved the digitisation of the entire SEEF system to enhance transparency and improve administrative efficiency.
In addition, the board endorsed the conduct of a third-party audit to further strengthen the institution’s performance and governance standards.
The education minister expressed displeasure over the absence of university vice chancellors from the board meeting, stressing that their participation was essential for addressing student concerns and improving scholarship-related policies and facilities.
