PESHAWAR (Kashifuddin Syed): The Peshawar City Police have arrested 16 individuals belonging to five different gangs, including some Afghans, who were involved in street crimes, burglary, vehicle theft, and other serious offences.
Some of the suspects committed crimes under the influence of drugs, specifically ice, while one individual was arrested for stealing a cow.
Law enforcement recovered cash and valuable items worth lakhs from the suspects. According to the city police, operations conducted by officers from the police stations Kabali, Yaka Tot, Shah Qabul, and Bhana Mari led to these arrests.
The accused include Ajmal, Ahmed, Qadir, Jalil, Munib, Waqas, Muhammad Zubair, Muhammad Bilal, Adnan, Haroon, Daniyal, Tariq, Haris, Qadir, and Arif, among others. Many of the suspects have already been transferred to jail.
The group comprises residents from Afghanistan, Khyber, Charsadda, and Peshawar, and they are suspected of being involved in motorcycle theft, robbery, burglary, and other crimes. Some of the accused reportedly used the money from their thefts to fund illegal activities, including visits to transgender camps, drug use, and dance parties.
In one notable case, an individual addicted to ice stole a sacrificial cow, from which authorities recovered Rs 130,000. The police also confiscated 22 stolen motorcycles, a Suzuki car, a rickshaw, Rs 700,000 in cash, 200 dirhams, 40 watches, four laptops, 22 mobile phones, and various weapons used in these crimes.
