Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has warned of a major political mobilisation in Islamabad on September 27, saying his supporters would arrive in such large numbers that no one would be able to stop them.
Addressing a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of an underpass, Afridi said all constitutional and legal avenues had been pursued but justice had not been delivered. This time, we will not sit quietly, he said, describing September 27 as the beginning of a new era for Pakistan.
The chief minister said the provincial government had completed the Dalazak Chowk underpass on Ring Road within 90 days and was bringing development projects worth Rs200 billion to Peshawar. He said the current year would be one of peace, development and prosperity in the province despite political and administrative challenges from the federal government.
Afridi said the KP government had increased its development budget from Rs195 billion to Rs235 billion and exceeded its provincial revenue collection target of Rs129 billion by collecting Rs150 billion.
Criticising the federal government, he said the Centre had collected Rs1.3 trillion less in revenues and that despite four years of the Shehbaz Sharif government, the country had failed to make meaningful progress.
He also blamed federal policies for renewed unrest in KP and warned that if young people took to the streets, the ruling elite would have nowhere to hide.
