PESHAWAR: The appointment of a new director of the Anti-Corruption Establishment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains embroiled in controversy, with the newly appointed officer yet to assume charge nearly 10 days after his posting.
According to sources, the KP government appointed PMS officer Dr Mohsin Habib as Director Anti-Corruption after removing Siddiq Anjum from the post. However, Dr Habib has not yet taken charge of the position despite the passage of around 10 days since his appointment.
Sources said the provincial government had been attempting for nearly nine months to remove Siddiq Anjum from the position of Director Anti-Corruption. His replacement had also remained a subject of discussion for various reasons.
Following Anjum’s removal, a police officer was initially appointed as the new Director Anti-Corruption, but he reportedly declined to assume the position.
The government subsequently appointed Dr Mohsin Habib, a Provincial Management Service (PMS) officer, to the post. Dr Habib is currently serving as the Administrator Auqaf, according to sources.
Sources said Dr Habib had made several attempts to have his new posting withdrawn and had requested the government to assign him another position instead of Director Anti-Corruption.
However, sources said the government has now given him clear instructions to assume charge as Director Anti-Corruption and perform his duties in the new position.
The continued delay in the new director taking charge has kept the appointment issue under discussion within the provincial administration.
