PESHAWAR: Weather is expected to remain extremely hot and dry in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, today.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in the provincial capital, Peshawar, is currently 36 degrees Celsius, while the humidity is 22 percent. At present, light winds are blowing from the northwest at a speed of 5 miles per hour, and the weather is completely clear and sunny.

The background to this weather situation is that the Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert of a severe heat wave in most parts of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this week.

According to the report, due to weather changes in the Indian Ocean and the effects of El Nino, especially in plain districts like Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Karak and DI Khan, an unusual increase of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius is being recorded compared to the average temperature of May and June, due to which the mercury is likely to go up to 41 to 46 degrees in the coming days.

Meteorologists have attributed the severe dry heat to global warming and an unusual decrease in rainfall before the monsoon. Medical experts have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outings in the afternoon and to consume more water to avoid heatstroke and extreme heat.
