ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced plans to form a “United Opposition” following consultations with opposition leaders in Parliament.
Fazlur Rehman announced this after meeting Mahmood Achakzai, the opposition leader in the National Assembly, in Islamabad on Thursday.
While talking to reporters, Fazlur Rehman said consultations were held with the leaders of the opposition in both the Senate and National Assembly, and consensus was reached regarding the move towards the formation of a united opposition.
“We will work together in Parliament,” said Fazlur Rehman, who added that the consultations were ongoing in order to take the shape of an alliance.
“We will hold more consultations and I hope this step has been taken positively,” he stated.
When asked if Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would be part of the proposed opposition alliance, Fazlur Rehman observed that the PPP was a part of the ruling coalition at the moment.
He said that efforts would also be made to create an environment for the All-Parties Conference (APC) of opposition parties.
