SWITZERLAND: A joint statement has been issued following the first phase of technical negotiations between the United States and Iran held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, with Pakistan and Qatar serving as mediators in the diplomatic process.

According to the communique, the inaugural session of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has concluded, bringing together representatives from the United States, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar.

The statement described the discussions as positive and constructive, noting progress in establishing mechanisms for continued technical negotiations.

The parties agreed to form a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight of the mediation process.

Under the agreed framework, chief negotiators will regularly report to the committee, while specialized working groups will focus on key issues including nuclear matters, sanctions, monitoring mechanisms, and dispute resolution.

The joint statement further revealed that the High-Level Committee has endorsed a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days.

Additional technical talks are expected to commence immediately to advance the negotiation process.

To prevent misunderstandings and potential incidents, the parties have also established a direct communication channel.

The mechanism will support efforts to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.

Additionally, the participants agreed to establish a de-confliction cell designed to reduce tensions and address potential security concerns, with mediating countries playing a facilitative role.

The statement noted that negotiations will continue in the coming days, while Pakistan and Qatar welcomed the commitment shown by both Washington and Tehran toward achieving a diplomatic resolution.

The mediators also reaffirmed their determination to support a peaceful, constructive, and sustained dialogue process aimed at securing a comprehensive agreement.
