PESHAWAR: The Islamic State (IS) Khurasan has claimed responsibility for the assassination of religious leader Sheikh Idrees, who was targeted in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda on Tuesday morning.
The IS Khurasan group claimed responsibility on its website for the assassination of a pro-government Pakistani cleric and former provincial assembly member, Muhammad Idris, near the Afghan border.
The IS Khurasan stated that their soldiers assassinated a pro-government Pakistani cleric and former member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly, and the supreme religious authority of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party, Muhammad Idrees, by targeting his car with gunfire in the village of Utmanzai in the Charsadda district. Two police officers assigned to guard him were also wounded.
