ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian is set to arrive in Pakistan today on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior officials.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, President Pezeshkian will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Chairman Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Prime Minister during his stay in Islamabad.

This marks President Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan since assuming office. Discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in key areas, including trade, energy, border security, and regional connectivity.

The two sides will also review diplomatic developments following the signing of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” and explore avenues for further strengthening ties between the neighboring countries.

The Foreign Office stated that the visit reflects the longstanding historical, cultural, and fraternal relations between Pakistan and Iran, as well as their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and cooperation.

The visit comes shortly after the conclusion of the first round of Iran–United States negotiations, during which both sides reportedly agreed to establish a high-level oversight committee and adopt a 60-day roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement.

A joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar following the talks noted that Iran and the United States had agreed to initiate technical negotiations, establish a communication mechanism to facilitate commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and form working groups on nuclear issues and sanctions.

Ahead of the negotiations, President Pezeshkian had reiterated Iran’s position that its right to uranium enrichment must be recognized, underscoring Tehran’s stance on its nuclear program.
