MUREE: A horrific fire suddenly broke out in a vehicle full of passengers and tourists on the expressway near Malika Kohsar Murree, as a result of which 10 passengers, including women and children, died on the spot, while more than 8 people were severely injured.
According to rescue sources and eyewitnesses, this tragic incident took place on Murree Expressway when the tourist vehicle was taking a turn, when suddenly a short circuit or a gas cylinder exploded inside the vehicle, causing a severe fire. The fire engulfed the entire vehicle on the spot, due to which the passengers did not get a chance to get out.
As soon as the incident was reported, Rescue 1122 teams and fire brigade vehicles immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations. Rescue personnel brought the fire under control after a hard struggle, cut the vehicle, and pulled out the bodies and the injured.
According to medical officials, the bodies of all the deceased and the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital. The condition of several of the injured is said to be critical as their body parts have been badly burnt, due to which there is a fear of a further increase in the death toll. Preparations are being made to shift the seriously injured to the burn centre of Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi after providing first aid.
Taking notice of the incident, police officials have started an investigation to determine the real cause of the fire in the vehicle (cylinder explosion or short circuit). The local administration says that efforts are being made to contact the families of the tourists travelling in the vehicle so that their identification process can be completed as soon as possible.
