ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Saturday formally notified the appointment of Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry as the new Inspector General of Islamabad Police and Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi as Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Sohail Chaudhry replaces Ali Nasir Rizvi as the Islamabad police chief, while Rizvi has been transferred to the NCCIA as its new director general. Chaudhry has previously held several senior positions in Punjab Police, including Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, City Police Officer Faisalabad, DIG Operations Lahore, DIG Counter Terrorism Department Punjab and Regional Police Officer Multan.
Rizvi had been serving as IGP Islamabad since April 2024. His transfer to the NCCIA is part of a reshuffle of senior police officers at the federal level. The changes bring new leadership to both Islamabad Police and the NCCIA. This major change in the leadership of Islamabad Police comes at a time when the federal capital is facing growing concerns related to street crime, public safety and law-and-order management.
Similarly, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s appointment comes as Pakistan continues to face an increasing number of complaints and investigations related to cybercrime and digital fraud. His administrative and operational experience in policing is expected to contribute to the agency’s future investigations and enforcement efforts.
