ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s daughter, Meher Bano Qureshi, has called on her party colleague and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan to apologise for his remarks about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
In a post on X, Meher Bano urged Shafi Jan to withdraw his remarks and apologise. “As a woman and a fellow party member, I would urge my brother Shafi Jan to retract his words and tender an apology,” she said.
She added that while there was “a lot to criticise” about Maryam Nawaz and those around her, the language used by Shafi Jan was “unparliamentary and ungentlemanly” and deeply offensive. Shafi Jan has faced criticism on social media following controversial remarks about women, particularly his comments about the Punjab chief minister.
The remarks were made during a speech in the KP Assembly and sparked a debate on social media, with several journalists also condemning his choice of words. Senior journalist Ajmal Jami described Shafi Jan’s statement as unfortunate and shameful, saying it should be condemned. The criticism from within PTI has added to the controversy surrounding the KP minister’s remarks, with calls growing for him to withdraw the statement and apologise.
