ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a public holiday across Pakistan on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi(SAW), the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division following the Prime Minister’s approval, all government and private institutions will remain closed nationwide on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 Hijri.The notification states that the holiday has been declared to commemorate Eid Milad-un-Nabi(SAW) and allow citizens to participate in religious gatherings and events.

Public holiday for all federal and provincial government offices, as well as private institutions with the announcement, banks, schools, colleges, and government offices across the country will remain closed for the day.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi(SAW) is observed every year with religious fervour across Pakistan. The day is marked with Milad gatherings, Naat recitations, and processions. Streets and mosques are decorated with lights and banners, and special security arrangements are made by authorities.

The Cabinet Division’s notification confirms that the Prime Minister approved the holiday proposal ahead of the occasion to facilitate nationwide observances.

This is the first official holiday notification issued for August 2026. More details regarding traffic plans and security arrangements for Milad processions are expected to be released by provincial governments in the coming days.
