Government medicines scandal, former DG Health Dr. Shaukat’s bail application rejecte
The accountability court has rejected the bail application of former Director General (DG) Health Dr. Shaukat, who was arrested in the government medicines scandal.
Accountability court judge Muhammad Hamid Mughal heard the application, while prosecutor Habibullah Baig appeared in the court on behalf of NAB.
During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor took the position that the former DG Health has been arrested on charges of corruption and alleged misappropriation of government funds. According to NAB, the accused is accused of alleged financial irregularities of more than one billion rupees in the purchase of medicines.
NAB told the court that the accused allegedly made payments to favored firms through fake invoices, which caused huge loss to the national exchequer.
On the other hand, the petitioner’s lawyer took the position in the court that Dr. Shaukat was a former DG Health and the allegations against him were baseless. The lawyer said that the prosecution did not have any solid evidence against his client, so he should be released on bail.
After hearing the arguments of the parties, the accountability court rejected the bail application of former DG Health Dr. Shaukat and refused to grant him relief.
